Worth Your Time Weekly – 4/19/18

Welcome to Worth Your Time Weekly – April 19, 2018

Each Thursday, I do a quick post with 3-5 links I come across (or were emailed to me by you!) that I think are worth your time.  Here are the links for this week (and don’t forget last week’s WYTW)!

Also, don’t forget to check my last two posts; 1) my simple path to becoming a pharmacist millionaire, and 2) my ode to intentional spending!

Here come the Links!

1. Jonathan Clements gives a few examples about how different groups financially subsidize each other

I found this concept interesting.  Mr. Clements gives some examples of different groups of people subsidizing one anothers financial choices.  This certainly gave me something to think about related to my own life and I hope it can for you as well.  What types of activities do you do that might subsidize someone else or what do you get because someone else might subsidize your choices?  Another thought might be, are you subsidizing your present-self at the expense of your future-self?  I smell a future blog post!

2. Having trouble staying motivated to pay down debt?  This one might be for you!!

Sometimes people have a hard time getting excited about paying off debt.  It tends to be a lot more exciting to buy a new iPhone or new television.  This article might help with some ideas on how to keep yourself motivated saving your money and paying down debt.  I love the chart and spreadsheet tracking ideas as I get real excited to see my debt graph go down! =)

3. How to learn about Mutual Funds from Dr. Dahle of Whitecoatinvestor.com

This is a tremendously good primer on how to start evaluating mutual funds for your retirement accounts.  I spend one whole class on this topic in my Personal Finance college course, but I’m going to beef up that class this next year and incorporate more of the information in this link.  Definitely worth a read if you are looking to start taking a more active role in your retirement fund selection.

4. Want to be a landlord for some easy passive income?  Here is one of the worst first rental/landlord stories I’ve read.

I’m actually a big proponent of rental properties and own 2 different buildings myself.  I even have a post nearly finished about my purchase of a four-unit building that reminds me of the one in this story (although mine hasn’t been a nightmare – thankfully!).  Landlording isn’t for the faint of heart and it is good to know how bad it can get to make sure you can stomach the good and bad.  And this story definitely seems to be as bad as it can get.  If you want to be a landlord – I definitely recommend clicking this link.

That’s it for this week.  Did you run across an interesting link?  Do you find this type of content valuable?  Post below or feel free to email it to me.  I read every comment and email I receive.
